Why English requirements for UK work visa changed
This new B2 English requirement applies to all new applicants filing from Nigeria.
It’s also for Nigerians in the UK switching to another visa, like from Student visa to Skilled Worker.
But If you already have your Skilled Worker visa under the old B1 requirement (i.e. before 8 January 2026), this change doesn’t affect you.
No B2 test is needed to existent your visa on that same route.
Settlement (Indefinite Leave to Remain) still sits at B1 for now.
But a rise to B2 has been confirmed for 26 March 2027.
Ways to prove CEFR B2 English requirement
There are two ways to meet the English requirements for UK work visa for Nigerian applicants.

Having an English-taught degree verified by UK Ecctis
